GT THEMES / INFORMATION
1. Deciding on a Theme
Here is a brainstorming sheet you can use (this page is optional) to help you think about your theme:

Here are some links which may give you some ideas! You will notice they are geared towards AP Art / Photography, in which students work towards a "concentration" or long-term investigation of a theme for their AP exam. Working with a GT Theme is very similar to working with an AP Concentration. You can also Google "lists of AP concentrations" or similar to come up with other great sources of inspiration.
Big compiled list of AP Photography Concentrations (we are not in Photo, but these ideas are from both Art and Photo teachers/students, and can be used in any media - plus, they may give you your own ideas!):

Once you have decided on your theme, fill out the GT Theme WORKSHEET and turn it in by September 8, 2015.

You don't have to wait until September 8! Feel free to turn it in early and get started on your project!
2. Self-Designed Independent Project (each quarter)
Now that you have your theme, what do you want to do with it?
This is open-ended and up to you. You may consider both traditional forms of response (painting, drawing, sculpture, book-making, etc) as well as non-traditional or new forms of response (performance, video, sound, interactive art, etc.) Please let me know how I can help you with your ideas or support you in your process!
Consider: depth of exploration - this project should represent a quarter’s worth of work; materials - what do you want to use? is it something you have already used?
Remember you will be designing and completing a project every quarter. You MAY change your theme each quarter, or you MAY keep it the same all year!

3. In Progress Critiques
Each quarter we will have two in-progress critiques about our GT projects. On critique days, you will bring in your work so far. We will share progress with each other and give each other ideas and feedback. Some projects may be difficult or impossible to bring in (for example, last year a student created a mural on her bedroom wall) and in this case, you may bring photographs which document your progress. Some projects (such as a performance piece) may need to be shared through narrative explanation, sketches, etc.
4. Turning in Your Project
At the end of the quarter, you will turn in your project along with a rubric/artist statement which you have designed yourself.
