Using scanned images (once we get the scanner issue worked out!) or images found online, create a purposeful merger or hoax.
Your purpose can be scientific, political, cultural, or humorous - or any combination of these! The goal is to have your hoax be believable - not necessarily in terms of realism (as in, "I am 99% sure SHARKBIRD doesn't exist in nature"), but in terms of your digital craftsmanship (as in, "well...I'm sure that SHARKBIRD was Photoshopped, but there are no obvious signs like poorly blended colors.") Remember to use the highest quality images you can find; when doing a Google search, select "Large" in the menu to the left. (See below.) Well hello, everyone! Take the Photo Restoration Challenge offered by Operation Photo Rescue, a non-profit organization that brings comfort to disaster victims by helping to restore important family photographs. Here's a little bit about them from their website:
OPR offers examples of the different levels of damage found in most rescued photos - minimal, moderate, and severe. Download and try to restore one photo to be turned in for a grade!
